maybe XP to Vista may cause the problem with certain types of computers..But The above solution may fix it for you.. My pc didn't actually shutdown, it just closed all of my open windows.I have system restore turned off, to prevent viruses embedding themselves into the system restore files.

Didnot work. It really does hang the boot process because something is going wrong. Accessing Safe Mode only freezes in the CRCDISK.SYS line. No problems on hardware, but when I ran the startup repair, It said it couldnt repair the problem it incountered.
